Performance measurement - how do we perform?

Business in the Community - Corporate Responsibility Index

In 2007/08, we entered the Business in the Community (BitC) Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index.

This index attracts participation from a wide range of larger UK businesses.

It assesses the integration of strategy, management practices and performance across key CR areas of community, environment, marketplace and workplace.

We were pleased to achieve 'silver' status in the index in our first year, with an overall score of 89.5 per cent.

We will use the index as an independent test of our direction of travel across the broad range of CR issues.

London Benchmarking Group

In 2007/08, we rejoined the London Benchmarking Group (LBG) and now use the LBG reporting model to calculate our contributions to the community.

The LBG model provides a standardised way of managing and measuring a company's community involvement.

We believe through this process we are improving the robustness of our reporting of community investment activity and sharing best practice with other like-minded organisations.

Water UK

We are a member of Water UK, the body representing water companies and other water organisations in the UK.

We continue to contribute to the Water UK annual report of Sustainability Indicators to show industry progress in moving towards sustainable development.

The industry has been reporting in this way since 2002 and in 2007/08, undertook a major exercise with a range of stakeholders to review these indicators and revise requirements for future reporting.

We fully support the more robust reporting this will produce and that the revised indicators will be more reflective of wider stakeholder concerns.

The latest annual Sustainability Indicators report is available on the WaterUK website.
