Every five years we produce a Water Resources Management Plan which sets out how demand for water is balanced against the supply over the next 25-year period.

- Public consultation
- The 16-week public consultation closed on 27 August 2008. All comments made as part of the consultation are available to view at our consultation website from 31 October 2008. A statement in response to the public consultation will be published in February 2009, in accordance with Defra's Water Resources Management Plan Direction (England) 2008. The Statement will summarise the responses received and explain how the comments have been considered in our revised draft Plan, which will be submitted to Defra in Spring 2009.
- Background Information

- Strategic Environmental Assessment
- In view of the complexity of our draft Water Resources Management Plan, we undertook a Strategic Environmental Assessment on our draft Plan.
- Water supply
- Our water supply area covers around 8,000 km² and is divided into six areas or Water Resource Zones.
- Demand for water
- Each person in our supply area uses on average 160 litres of water each day, we forecast an increase in demand for water.
- Managing demand
- To effectively manage our water supply, we try to manage demand for water.
